HTC Bliss Reveal

THE BRIEF

Details option

This was one of those difficult, but rewarding projects as a good majority of shots relied solely on art directing cloth simulations. The goal was to achieve a beautiful elegance that represented the elegance and beauty of the HTC Bliss phone. A cloth subsurface shader was created that also had a somewhat metallic feel that would change colors based on its falloff.

Details option 2

The tricky part of the cloth was being able to animate it going from very specific art directed movements to a free flowing feeling then back to art directed specific movements. At times, in order to achieve this while still retaining the cloth details and folds, point caches had to be created at a certain point that would then be simulated as a cloth object only to be point cached again. The point caches were used like transitional points for the cloth sims to then be animated to move in specific manners.

Details option 3

The metallic strip that was sewn into the main cloth was actually a duplicate model of the large main cloth simulation so that we could have the same motion and know it would retain the same final shape. Then we reversed animated applying a morph target changing the shape at the beginning and animated the appearance to resolve to its final shape. Finally we added an Edit Poly modifier that deleted everything away except for the final strip that you see.
