THE BRIEF

Details option

When we were given the task of taking over Iron Fist for it's much better second season, we were asked to redesign the concept of the Iron Fist and how it 'turns on' as well as the overall look. After numerous iterations, I developed the glowing bones centered around each knuckle along with the overall hand source that was then used as the basis for his enemy. We took the same idea behind everyone weapon that was used that had the Iron Fist power as we later see used in Colleen's chi sword and Danny's glowing guns.

I was also tasked with creating Danny's ground collision ring smoke look that reverberated different types upon impact as well as in the air. I utilized FumeFX to drive this animation that was used as dust/smoke, but also as displacements maps for 2D to reuse and enhance.

Details option 3

On set, a light rig was made and put onto the actor's hands that would light up around his physical hand and body. In post, we had scanned the actors' hands and arms that I had rigged up and we match-moved their motions. Yes, that included skin deformations, as opposed to doing a completely CG arm to keep the realism of the hand turning on/off.
