THE BRIEF
The Gray Man is known for having several memorable action pack scenes and the Plane Fight scene is one of them. As the characters continue fighting, the plane continues to dismantle and fall apart. Chunks of the sides rip off as debris flows out until it ultimately splits in half and explodes.
I was involved with many aspects of the plane destruction doing cloth, destruction and smoke sims. • - The initial hole that explodes open and debris flies out that kick starts the plane to break apart • - Rear panel sides rips out, wires flapping • - Camera side view of the plane as parts and panels rip away. • - Pièce de résistance of my work for this sequence was the scenes where the plane ultimate rips apart into two. With all the dark shadowing and camera shake it's very hard to see all the simulations added. There's fluttering and ripping cloth fabric within the interior of the plane, the interior floor buckles and rips apart, interior pipes bend and rip, more plane panel debris destruction flying off the plane and additional smoke sims flowing out of broken pipes and other interior portions of the plane.
