THE BRIEF
This fun cheese monster spot all lived within the childrens' minds. The monster relied heavily on cloth simulations during the peeling where each peel was skinwrapped to several cloth drivers that were selected via animated soft selection in the 3D Studio Max modifier stack. The cheese monster 'hair' was rigged with spring controllers to give the floppy appearance.
The building was rigged where every window had hinges to animate when impacted by the monster. Within the windows were cloth curtains that simulated upon impact. The rooftop antenna wires were also cloth driven for instant feedback. Note the detail of the building upon impact. The building splits to reveal corrugated cardboard sides and deformation wrinkles. This was an early hint that this was all in the childrens' minds as we later see at the end they are playing with cardboard cutout buildings.
